Bio

DG Architects is a family business founded in 1994 by husband and wife duo Sieg and Karen de Beer. With both their fathers being prominent architects in the field, they further limited the gene pool by creating more architects within their children who now form part of the practice’s partners.

DG Architects pursues a broad selection of projects across a wide field of typologies and scales from urban, residential, industrial, educational, institutional, leisure and commercial developments in contexts from rustic towns to dense urban centres.  Our niche lies in the design, development and close-out of large land planning, Estate design and pathology laboratory driven schemes.

Our extremely passionate yet intimate Studio of professional architects embodies architecture as a practice of the art of creation; an amalgamation of what advances the future promise whilst respecting what the past taught us. We believe Architecture is a lifestyle. Innovation leads our design process; the art of architecture lies in creating a maximum impact within the constraints of budget, site, and functionality.

Listening is key. Hearing the client’s needs, but also being aware of the Genius Loci: the essence and tales of the site itself. Each project is part of its direct contexts’ puzzle, that is why we work not only within the physical constraints of each individual project but also the non-physical elements such as light, wind, colour, nature. Our buildings, regardless of location, are aware of their surroundings. DG Architects constantly grows to be Context-driven, not ego-driven, what the building needs to be and not just what we want it to be.

As architects, we are involved in the projects from start to finish. We usually provide full architectural design services during the construction phase, an all-encompassing design experience.

This diversity of building types, geographies, and scales continually stimulates cross-pollination of ideas and the discovery of innovative solutions. At DGA we immerse ourselves in a constant think and do structure to expand a new generation of possibilities in design, culture, art, travel and especially architecture.
